Glossary

Gradient:
NMR magnets usually have very homogenous (i.e. level) magnetic fields. To facilitate the imaging, they use gradients which create magnetic fields that ramp in one or more of the Cartesian directions

NMR:
Nuclear Magnetic Resonance

MRI:
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (i.e. 'human friendly' name for NMR imaging)

GARField:
An acronym (Gradient-At-Right-angles-to-Field) for a novel high gradient permanent magnet developed for thin film materials analysis using NMR. It has many advantages over both the high cost STRAFI and the lower cost NMR Mouse.

STRAFI:
STRAy Field Imaging. A novel method of high gradient imaging which utilizes the stray field of a high field superconducting magnet
