Laplacian was formed in 2002 by Dr Peter S Aptaker with 30 years experience in magnet technology and design. Peter's involvement in NMR magnet systems started when he took charge of the technical design software for Oxford (NMR) Instruments (1985-1992). He was a co-founder and Research Director of Resonance Instruments Limited (1993-2002) responsible for their large range of permanent magnets, shims and gradient systems. Subsequently Peter formed Laplacian to address new and innovative NMR magnet technology to meet customers' most exacting demands for performance and cost.
Since its formation Laplacian has had some significant successes:
- The OpenGARField magnet designed (2002) for and supplied to Prof. Peter McDonald (University of Surrey) was followed a year later (2003) by a duplicate for the University of New Brunswick.
- Laplacian obtained a DTI Smart award (2003-2004) to create the next generation of gradient design tools. A complex high strength gradient system has been supplied (2003) to the University of Aberdeen.
- Laplacian has been and is working closely with various Universities and companies on innovative NMR magnet system developments
